Breakfast at Tina We Salute You

Tina We Salute You

They describe themselves as “Dalston’s greatest café”. I would say that is very modest and a grand understatement. Here’s some evidence:

It’s one of those nice, communal set-ups with one big table in the middle with all the peanut butter and honey and stuff, then sofas, window seats and a little outside terrace.

Local guest artists re-populate the walls every 8 weeks, and every time it looks quality.

The loyalty card—alongside the East London “dis-loyalty” card scheme—is a wall plastered in customers’ names alongside their reward stars.

The menu’s simple but full of surprises, which all recall tasty, birthday-morning treats. My favourite’s the brekkie pitta.

Lunar Cycles

These fine gentleman custom-built the classic Claud Butler tourer which will soon take me 900 odd miles through France, the Pyrenees, and down to Barcelona. In the first of a series of posts in which I’ll be shouting out my favourite London spots, let me introduce you to Lunar Cycles.

This is exactly how a bicycle workshop ought to be. It’s that magic point where patient, precise attention to simple mechanical detail becomes something glamorous and sublime. By which I mean, they build really really gorgeous bikes — and are really nice guys.

There’s no doubt that cycling in London has exploded in terms of style and fashion alongside utility. Nice bikes turn heads. All heads too, no matter what interest they have in the mechanics or sport. Added to this, you see more and more bespoke bikes, which is too wonderful to describe. To my eyes, the bikes people are riding suit them and say as much about them as any outfit.
